WINNER OF EIMA 2010 TECHNICAL INNOVATION AWARD – INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR PRECISION VITICULTURE
This is the first machine in the world created to work on the vineyard canopy at a variable rate. The 111 VRT leaf-stripper has been devised to enable controlled working in the vineyard, not removing leaves in a uniform way, as with all the previous equipment, but controlled depending on the higher or lower presence of vegetation in different parts of the same vineyard. The process we are putting forward uses a telemeasuring system to create index maps of vegetation, to be used as a guide to identify areas for high or medium levels of leaf removal, as well as a total lack of leaf removal for areas with low vegetative vigour.
The electronics on both the SAME DEUTZ FAHR and our equipment use the new communication standard ISOBUS.

In the video you can observe the huge difference in work between the different areas, the sounding of the tractor’s horn indicates the passage from high vigour to low vigour.
This machine uses the new ISOBUS electronic communication standard and can be controlled from a tractor already equipped with a virtual monitor, that can be supplied with the SAME tractor or with the virtual terminal DICKEY-john IntelliAg 10’’ distributed by us and which can be applied to any kind of tractor. This terminal is also able to run all the other general ISOBUS applications and particularly the VRT spreader produced by us, with an appreciable lowering of production costs.
The term ISOBUS refers to the ISO 11783 standard "tractors and machines for agriculture and deforestation: serial network for control and communication". Thanks to the ISOBUS system, a single graphic terminal (defined by the Virtual Terminal standard) on the tractor can control all compatible ISOBUS machines and manage variable-rate maps, sending the dose change instructions to the ISOBUS side automatically when the the equipment moves from one area to another with different prescriptions
Our leaf stripper has been created in such a way as to be able to remove the leaves in a controlled manner and to manage the quantity of leaves eliminated according to the real need of the various areas of the same vineyard. For this purpose, the vineyard prescription maps are created (easily originated from the force maps) expressed in kg of leaves removed per hectare. These maps are managed by ISOBUS electronics and by suitable actuators allowing us to perform a high level of peeling in high-vigor areas, a moderate peeling in the intermediates up to the total absence of peeling for areas with lower vegetative vigor. As the tractor reaches the different zones of different prescriptions, recognized on the basis of the geographical position detected by the GPS antenna, the working mode of the machine is then changed, bringing it closer to what could lead a very expert operator in manually executing the flaking.

In the following images you can see the variable rate leaf strippiper at work . The vineyard has been mapped with an aircraft and it has been rebuilt the map of vigor in NDVI index (Normalized Differential Vegetation Index), from this map the prescription map was obtained in terms of kg / ha of leaves removed. It is a georeferenced map where the company technician has indicated the level of stripping to be carried out. The highest intensity of leaf stripping was assigned to the most vigorous zone, in the intermediate zone leaf stripping was at half intensity compared to the maximum while in the less vigorous zone (which normally tends spontaneously to lose leaves in more advanced phenol phases) was prescribed not to remove leafs.

This revolutionary technique makes the work of the machine emulate the wisdom of man and allows to intervene on the vineyard with a high degree of respect for the same, distinguishing the sitospecific needs and treating them in a different way. This makes it the first machine ever made in the world for operations on foliage that is geographically intelligent.
